Energy production has fallen and electricity prices are up, according to official figures published by the Department of Trade and Industry. The total electricity supplied by all generators in 2006 was 0.4 per cent lower (-1.7 TWh) than in 2005. Consumption of electricity fell by 0.1 per cent in 2006 overall compared with 2005. Average industrial electricity prices including CCL were 14.6 per cent higher in the last quarter of 2006 compared to the same period in 2005. Businesses with links to Aberdeen city council may be encouraged to switch off unused electrical equipment this weekend as part of a climate change initiative.
