The cost of running a home of business has increased over the last two years highlighting the need to shop around for your supplier, according to Sainsbury s Bank. Running a home has gone up by 1, 199 since 2005, which equates to an additional 3.28 a day. Shopping around for the best value provider can significantly cut costs, the bank advises. Robert O May, home insurance manager at Sainsbury s Bank, said: It s becoming more expensive to run a home, which makes it all the more important for homeowners to shop around to make sure they are getting the very best deals available. alternative fuels data center

The largest rise can be attributed to gas and electricity bills. Gas bills have risen by an average of 27 per cent, while the cost of electricity has pushed bills up by 19 per cent. The findings come at a time when some of the largest energy suppliers are facing criticism for their failure to lower prices in line with those of wholesale costs. This is creating an oligopoly within the industry. alternative fuels for cars

One of the UK s leading commercial electricity suppliers has announced its renewable energy plans for the next five years. Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has stated that it is expected to passing its energy capacity milestone of 20, 000 megawatts this month through its use of renewable sources including windfarms and hydro-electric systems. The company has also stated that it is to invest over 2.5 billion of capital in renewable projects by 2013, as well as spend 500 million of equity in new markets and technologies over the same time period. alternatives to fossil fuels

Ian Marchant, SSE s chief executive, said the targets were realistic and achievable . He added that the company is on course to become an internationally significant player in the renewables sector . SSE recently became the last of the UK s Big Six energy suppliers to raise its domestic energy prices. The company has blamed rising wholesale energy prices on its decision to increase the cost of its gas and electricity by 15.8 per cent and 14.2 per cent respectively. ethanol as an alternative fuel

David McArthur, ecologist at ScottishPower Renewables, said the move was part of the company s obligation to protect and enhance the habitat of its windfarms. Hares haven t populated this part of the land for a number of decades, but we see them as an important part of our on-going commitment to develop a sustainable ecological environment at the windfarm site, he added. The commercial electricity company also recently announced that its tree management programme has lead to a 90 per cent reduction in power disruption caused by tree-related problems for consumers. alternative fuel resources

The business secretary is expected today to state the case for the expansion of the nuclear power in the UK. John Hutton will outline his hopes for energy plans in Britain to go further than just involve the replacement of the 23 reactors already established in Britain. There has never been a greater global demand for finance, equipment and skills to build and operate nuclear power stations, he will say. Small businesses stretched by energy suppliers

. alternative fuel company

Many small businesses in the UK face bankruptcy because their energy suppliers either neglect to lower utility bills or are sending incorrect invoices, a recent investigation reveals. alternative sources of fuel

Conducted by the Observer, the report into the treatment of small to medium-sized companies by the big six electricity suppliers highlights inefficient billing practices and poor communication between providers and their corporate customers. alternative fuels research

Britain s smallest businesses are particularly vulnerable to sharp tariff hikes because of long-term energy contracts, the report concludes. Small businesses are stuck in the middle, according to Paul Savage, business services manager at utility price watchdog Energywatch, the Observer reports. Customers are offered protection if anything goes wrong with their energy supplier and big businesses have the know-how and the staff to deal with negotiating contracts. fossil fuel alternatives

Business electricity prices are also notoriously difficult to compare, because energy suppliers are not required to publish their rates. In a bid to encourage beleaguered small businesses to compare utility prices and switch energy suppliers appropriately, Energywatch and the Federation of Small Businesses have joined forces to launch a new campaign to ensure proper treatment for corporate customers. alternative fuel automobiles

London, 30, May 2007 When it comes to electricity, small and medium size enterprises can never assume they are getting a good deal. In fact, it s safe to say that - as the market stands today - businesses should assume the opposite is true, and that they are being taken for a ride by the big six energy providers., one of several smaller providers offering fair, flexible and consistent pricing, has compiled an essential guide for free download to help electricity customers see through the dirty tricks. alternative fuel energy

Despite the bad publicity heaped on industry fat cats , over 20% of customers have never switched electricity providers since deregulation of the market. The reason, according to Graham Paul at, is that they simply don t have access to the right information. Our guide to seeing through the small print puts the power back in the hands of the customer. This essential document not only states the case for switching, it also provides all the necessary information and addresses for businesses to carry it through, he says, adding, There is no reason for loyal customers to pay more for electricity. That s why the Elctricity4Business Guide to the small print of electricity supply contracts , available for download in convenient pdf format, is essential reading for any business. alternative fuel prices

In the UK, the chances are high that a small or medium size business receives its electricity from one of the six major companies. In fact, between them, British Gas, EDF Energy, Npower, Powergen, Scottish Southern Energy and Scottish Power share 96% of the market. Despite the promise of competition through deregulation, all of these providers have routinely been able to raise prices by putting their customers on evergreen fixed-price contracts that are automatically extended for months or even years unless the costumer takes timely action. If businesses fail to provide notice within a specified period, suppliers reserve the right to increase prices, even as the wholesale price of electricity goes down. As a result, customers that signed up to a long-term contract in early 2006 - when energy wholesale prices were at their peak - are often paying double or even triple today s market price for their electricity. alternative fuels company

If companies are wise to the tricks they can expect from their electricity supplier, they can switch and slash their electricity bills at a stroke. It s as simple as that, Paul explains. Many of our customers save in excess of 000 a year, simply by filling out our template letter and switching to our fair and flexible pricing plan. alternative fuel solutions

London, UK, 9 August 07 - Smaller businesses should buy cheap and conserve energy for maximum green effect says . alternative fuel sorces

Small and mid-sized businesses are already doing their bit for the environment by paying the mandatory Climate Change Levy, set to rise incrementally over time. And responsible businesses understand that this is essential for the long-term sustainability of our planet. alternative fuel technologies

However, to suggest that these same businesses should switch to green energy and pay even more for the privilege in order to right the wrongs of big business; the real polluters, would be imposing an unfair burden on those whose bills have already doubled since 2005. alternative fuels hydrogen

Green energy, no doubt, will have its day and rightly so. But in times where barely 10% of energy is generated from renewable sources the responsibility to embrace this in the first instance clearly lies with big business. By doing this they will help stimulate the market creating the economies of scale necessary to produce this energy at more competitive rates for all. When the supply gap shortens and the cost of producing green energy drops considerably, then is the time for all businesses to consider the switch. types of alternative fuel

That not to suggest that small and mid-sized businesses should sit on their laurels waiting for this to happen. There much that can be done to reduce energy consumption-with surprisingly little investment.
